the sun
Some people may think the sun is a solid or a gas although it is actually plasma. Near the surface this plasma is tenuous and gaseous getting denser down towards the sun. The energy of the sun known to us as light and heat is the result from the nuclear reactions deep inside the sun’s high temperate “core”. The core carry’s on one quarter of the way from the center of the sun which is 15 million degrees to its surface which is 6000 degrees. There a 6 layers from the center out, the solar interior composed of the core (the radioactive zone) the convective zone, then there is the visible surface known as the photosphere to the chromosphere and finally the outermost layer the corona.
The Solar System is made up of eight planets. The two largest are Jupiter and Saturn which are made up of mainly hydrogen and helium. The next four planets are mostly composed of rock and metal these are Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars. Uranus and Neptune are the two planets which are mainly made up of large ices. These eight planets Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Uranus and Neptune make up our Solar System. Jupiter is composed largely of hydrogen and helium, it contains strong internal heat. The next planet Saturn is recognized by its extensive ring system; Saturn also has many similarities to Jupiter and is the least dense planet in the solar system. Mercury is the closest planet to the sun and is also the smallest planet in the Solar System. Mercury’s atmosphere contains atoms blasted off its surface by solar wind, its large iron core and thin mantle cannot be explained. It is primarily composed of rock and metal. Venus is close in size to earth, just like earth Venus has a thick silicate mantle around an iron core. Venus is drier than earth and its atmosphere is ninety times as dense, also has the hottest surface as its temperature is over 400 degrees. Earth is the largest and densest of inner planets, it’s the only planet in the solar system life is known to exist. Earth has a liquid hydrosphere which is unique; the other thing which is unique is it is the only planet where plate tectonics have been observed. The atmosphere of earth is very different from other planets. Mars is smaller than the earth and Venus, the atmosphere that Venus contains is mainly carbon dioxide, the red colour it is comes from iron oxide. Uranus is the lightest out of all the other planets as it orbits the sun on its side it has a colder core than other gas giants, also radiates very little heat into space. Neptune may be slightly smaller than Uranus although it is more massive and dense, Neptune radiates more internal heat although not as much as Jupiter and Saturn.
